Hey darlin'. That turkey holiday I love to bitch about is comin' up. Think we should make it special for our girl?

Seeing as she remembers who we are this year, I think we owe it to her. And I've got just the thing, picture this—

[ He sits back, feet propped up on something out of frame as he holds his hands out, envisioning his... er, vision. ]

It starts with "deep fried" and ends in "turkey."

[ Deep fried turkey was something that Ashe's mother would have had a heart attack over, and not due to the over indulgence of grease. Which naturally meant that she would always sing its praises, whether she liked it or not.

But the idea gets a laugh out of her. ]

I cannot believe that we have not yet shared such an important family tradition with her.

Now we just need a deep fryer big enough to cook it. I'll put B.O.B. on that.

Knowing you two, it won't take more than an hour to dig something up.

But I was having the same thought, about not having done it yet. Last year was a special case though.

[ They'd been so awkward trying to play the part of parents to Chloe. It's almost funny looking back on it now. ]

I am extremely resourceful in this place and have figured out how to get my hands on a few things.

It was. I can't believe we are still playin' house.

[ Or that she doesn't even mind it. ]

Remember when we both wanted it over with soon as possible? Joke's on us with how this turned out.

[ And he's never been so glad to have been wrong about something. ]

Guess if you're providin' the fryer, I'll rustle up the turkey.

It wasn't what was expected. Who knew we'd be such great parents, she'd not only want to play make believe, but want to keep us.

[ Her heart is still hurting for her with Max gone. That's been a lot for her to handle, the holidays really needed to be special. ]

You'd be better be serious about that rustlin' thing. I want to see you catch our dinner.

Have a hard time believing it sometimes myself.

[ He says it with the air of a joke, but there's truth to it at its core. He still has his doubts and insecurities, deep down. But at least now he trusts himself not to mess this up--not with Chloe, and not with Ashe. ]

There even wild turkeys around here? I hate to disappoint, but it might have to be store-bought this year.

Well, we can only keep playin' the hand we got dealt, which is why we now gotta prepare a second Thanksgivin'.

[ She had her own insecurities with it, but she doesn't want to think about those at all. ]

Well, if you wanna take the easy route, I guess I don't fault you. Long as there is a giant bird to stuff in a fryer.

Hey now, it ain't a matter of taking it easy! I've just never seen a turkey around here, and waiting too long means the stores run out. See? I know a thing or two about a thing or two.

We'll make a good one for her, come hell or high water.

I guess I can live without watching you chase after a turkey. Though, I would find it funny.

[ She pauses, because teasing aside, she's concerned. ]

You think she's gonna be okay?

[almightythirst]

[ Jesse's smile falters, a more serious light coming into his eyes. ]

I think she will. Doesn't mean it won't hurt her like hell in the meantime, but at least she's not alone.

[ She nods in agreement. Chloe was strong, she would get through this. ]

Yeah, she's a tough nut to crack. Lord, does this place try though.

You know, she's stronger than I am for sure, I don't know how I'd handle it.

[almightythirst]

You would.

[ He says it confidently, although with no pleasure taken in the thought. It's something he's given a lot of thought to though, having lost so many friends and loved ones to the whims of Deerington over the years. ]

I know you'd handle it, if you needed to. You're stronger than you give yourself credit for.

Oh, I know I can handle it. I just don't think I'd handle it well. My body count is surprisingly low here. It uh...it wasn't pretty last time you left, and I wouldn't entirely put me past me to a start an all out war on this town. Maybe Sodder knows that. Maybe she understands that I'm a little easier to handle when I'm kept satisfied.

[ Her tone is surprisingly light hearted for talks of murder and mayhem. Is she teasing? It's not fully clear.]

I am one crazy motherfucker, but right now...I got enough of an arrangement with folks here and I ain't gonna tip the scales so long as no one tests me.

You saying you're the only reason Sodder hasn't picked me up and put me back where she found me?

[ He can't help but like the idea: that Ashe's wrath is so great as to shake the foundations of whatever is running this joint. ]

Either way, no point in worrying about something that hasn't even happened yet. We'll keep your body count low, and make Chloe up the best Thanksgiving we can manage.

I think we can both agree that it is a possibility.

[ If nothing else, she would certainly try. So it really was in Deerington's better interests to keep her happy. ]

Yeah. That's fair. Right now, we just gotta focus on Thanksgiving, and keepin' our girl happy.

I think we can manage that, between the two of us. All it'll take is a deep fryer, a turkey, and a fire extinguisher in case it all goes south.

I am pretty sure that B.O.B. has one of those built in actually.

I might vaguely remember this from a night out drinking... y'know, one of the ones that ended in arson.

Oh right! That little bar on the outside of Oro Valley. They certainly didn't want us comin' back.

What do you think was the final straw: the arson, the barfight, or the hole we put in the roof?

To be honest darlin', I don't know which came first. I was gettin' pretty cozy with Jack that night and it is all a blur.

[almightythirst]

Guess it doesn't matter in the end. Banned is banned. So long as we keep the Thanksgiving celebrations a little less enthusiastic than that, I think we'll be golden.

Everyone is too afraid to ban me these days, so I got pretty much free rein.

But I think a simple and small dinner with our nearest and dearest is best. So let's make that happen.
