Jesse doesn’t do much as he waits for her, sitting in bed rather than pacing or picking up something to read. His racing thoughts are enough to keep him occupied. He’d missed something important, something vital to the way their relationship functions. This concept of him as a hero and her as a villain. How had he not noticed it earlier? Or had he, and had it just become such background noise to the rest that he’d not thought to address it head-on?
He knows which of them is true, and he means to make it right.
He doesn’t hesitate to take her hand, but his expression is caught between curious and concerned as he fumbles over her words to start. Whatever anger he has in him still is little to no match for the admission she makes next. He knows how hard it is for her to say that. His hand tightens on hers.
“… Yeah. You did. I’m just glad you’re alright.” He looks down at their joined hands, smiling a bit ruefully. “Should’ve said that first.”
